Biography

As one of the South West's top male
vocalists, Exeter based Simon Rees provides his own unique evening of
fun and entertainment, filled with classic songs from the 40's to the
current decade providing plenty of music for people of all ages to sing
along and dance to. Simon loves to perform a wide variety of styles and
can include a mixture of Swing, Soul, Reggae, Latin, Pop, Rock'n'Roll and Country
together with an impressive array of ballads. You can take a look at his
repertoire on Simon's song list.
Influenced by performers such as Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, James Brown,
Rod Stewart, The Rat Pack, Freddie Mercury, Ricky Martin and Robbie Williams,
Simon enjoys performing and puts on an energetic and enthusiastic show
for all.
Simon now specialises in providing entertainment for Wedding Receptions,
Civil Partnerships, Corporate and Private Functions such as birthday parties,
office parties and anniversary parties. He is the perfect addition to that
special occasion and with such a versatile repertoire he provides something
for everyone.
There has been so much interest in Simon that he was recently given a
full-page spread in the local press entitled 'The Wedding Singer'
With over fifteen years experience as a solo artist, Simon knows how
important it is to get a connection with his audience and has worked hard
to develop his own unique style. Many people have commented that they
have not seen anyone like him before.
'Simon clearly has that gift of creating an instant
connection between himself and ... his audience. A clue lies in the fact
that his blurb talks of 'a touch of Latin fire'. And we all know how sexy
the Latinos can be, don't we!But, somehow, Simon's routine goes way beyond
the merely sexy. Indeed, there's something much more subtle and sophisticated
about his stage presence…something I can only describe as a kind
of chemistry.' David Lowe, Music Scene.
Simon had his heart set on making a career in music since he entered a
College talent night back in 1988 where he dressed up and sang a couple
of Elvis tracks with no music to a crowd of students. He couldn't believe
that even people, who didn't know him, loved it and wanted to hear more.
It took a few years and a lot of hard work but Simon started to seriously
embark on a music career by fronting a five-piece Pop/Rock show band,
created by ex Cockney Rebel/Rocky Horror show bassist Dennis Cowan, called
Dark Stranger. Dark Stranger recorded an album and played several club
venues before their split in 1995.
Between 1988 and 1996, Simon would sing wherever there was an opportunity,
serenading guests in a restaurant he worked at, singing with any band
that happened to be playing (whatever their style) and entering various
talent events etc.
It was not until 1996 that we saw the rise of Simon Rees as a solo artist.
Since then he has played several hundred gigs in a variety of pubs, clubs,
hotels and holiday parks across the South West of England. He also appeared
as Elvis, Cliff and Buddy in a Rock&Roll production at Torquay's Riviera
Centre.
Simon sang at his first wedding reception in 2000 and enjoyed it so much
that since then he has been developing his act as a 'Wedding Singer'.
Simon has performed at weddings all over the South West and has advertised
at the Westpoint Real Brides Show in Devon, the Devon Weddings Publication
and the Dream Weddings Publication along with links to several popular
wedding services websites.
'A wedding is such a unique and special occasion
that I find it is such a pleasure to be a part of the day and I love the
feeling that I may have helped to make it even more enjoyable. I have
had some wonderful testimonials
from couples and this makes it all worthwhile.' Simon
You are welcome to come along and see Simon at any of his public
performances. Check out Simon's future gigs.
