This can include: Swing, Soul, Reggae, Latin, Pop, Rock’n’Roll, Country and a variety of party songs, together with an impressive array of ballads. You can take a look at his extensive repertoire on Simon’s song list.

Influenced by performers such as Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, James Brown, Rod Stewart, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Freddie Mercury, Ricky Martin, Robbie Williams and more recently Michael Bublé and Bruno Mars, Simon loves performing and puts on an energetic and enthusiastic show for all. He enjoys listening to many different bands and music from all genres and has built his repertoire around a variety of popular songs.

Simon performs at a number of Hotels and Social Clubs in Torquay and in the surrounding area and he also specialises in providing entertainment for Private Events such as Company Dinner Dances, Weddings and Private Parties. Many of these events have lead to repeat bookings over several years. Simon prides himself on his reputation and gives 100% to every performance. You can get an idea of what people think of him by reading some of his many testimonials. You are welcome to contact anybody quoted on this website. He does not spend a lot of money on promotion but relies on his performances to do the talking with ‘Word of mouth’ being, certainly his best form of advertising.

With over twenty years experience as a solo artist, he knows how important it is to get a connection with his audience and has worked hard to develop his own unique style. Many people have commented that they have not seen anyone like him before.

‘Simon clearly has that gift of creating an instant connection between himself and … his audience. Indeed, there’s something much more subtle and sophisticated about his stage presence…something I can only describe as a kind of chemistry.‘ David Lowe, Music Scene.

Simon, son to John and Zena Roberts was born in Plymouth, Devon. He has roots in both England and Wales, his father born in Wrexham and his mother in Nottingham. Simon’s dad worked as a radar operator for the Royal Air Force which meant that the family travelled a lot during the early years of his life. He spent time in Ipswich, Cyprus, Uxbridge in London, Whitby in Yorkshire before the family settled down in Newquay, Cornwall.

Simon studied Sports Science at Roehampton Institute in London and followed up with a PGCE in Physical Education and French from the University of Exeter. He then spent the best part of 27 years in Exeter before a move to Torquay in 2018. The new start in Torquay has been a positive and uplifting experience for Simon and his lovely wife of 20 years, Nathalie.

Simon Rees had his heart set on making a career in music since he entered a College talent show back in 1988 where he dressed up and sang a couple of Elvis tracks with no music to a crowd of students. He couldn’t believe that even people, who didn’t know him, enjoyed what he was doing and wanted to hear more. It took a few years and a lot of hard work but Simon started to seriously embark on a music career by fronting a five-piece Pop/Rock show band, created by ex Cockney Rebel/Rocky Horror show bassist Dennis Cowan, called Dark Stranger. Dark Stranger recorded an album and played several club venues before their split in 1995.

Rock Band Exeter

Between 1988 and 1996, Simon would sing wherever there was an opportunity, serenading guests in restaurants he worked at, singing with any band that happened to be playing (whatever their style) and entering various talent events etc.

It was not until 1996 that we saw the rise of Simon Rees as a solo artist. Since then he has played several thousand gigs in a variety of pubs, clubs, hotels and holiday parks across the South West of England and beyond. He also appeared as Elvis, Cliff and Buddy in a Rock&Roll production of the Rock, Rock, Rock Show at Torquay’s Riviera Centre.

Perfect for creating that party atmosphere, Simon is a popular choice for a variety of public and private events. Since 2013, he has provided the entertainment for the Lions Clubs International Volunteer Organisation, for its District and Multi-District Conventions and a number of Charter events around the South and South West of England.

Simon is able to adapt his show to fit any event and always likes to work closely with the event organisers to ensure that the evening runs smoothly and that everyone enjoys themselves. He continues to learn new songs and develop his act, never remaining complacent and this has helped to keep it fresh and current. This is supported in the way that several hotels, clubs and private organisations continue to book him year after year.
